This influenced my decision to major in Textile Arts. In a surface design class, Painting on Silk was offered. I experienced the exquisite way the fabric took the dyes and I was hooked. After moving the family to the suburbs in the 1950’s, my sister and I became her new canvas; dressing us in the latest fashion trends, continuing her passion for fashion. Roaming through her closet sparked my imagination… a fascinating world of shoes, furs and costume jewelry. After designing a garment, silk yardage is stretched onto horizontal frames. Areas for a sleeve, front trim or back are marked off. Exploration continues by adding a surprise color piping or the play of a button to complete a finished garment. But is a design ever really finished?
